Activity 2: Swimming to Safety

Yusra Mardini is a marvelous and competitive swimmer. She was born in Damascus, Syria. Her dad trained her and her older sister to swim. She was winning competitions everywhere. Swimming made her feel like she was in heaven, all of her problems flew away. Once her home was destroyed while the war was happening, she had to leave the country and she became a refugee in Germany. She was proud that she took part in the Olympics as a member of the refugee team and won in the 100-meter butterfly.

  1. Kia ora Ashaswi! And Happy New Year! :)

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and you're enjoying your summer holidays. It's great to see that you made some time to complete a few more activities - well done! :)

This is a great summary of Yusra Mardini's story. It's quite inspiring, isn't it? How she overcame the challenges presented to her and is now helping other refugees. Do you like swimming? I used to swim competitively when I was at school but now I just do it for fun. :)

Have a wonderful day, Ashaswi. Keep up the great blogging! :)

    Bye for now,

    Mikey
